Project 2 Critique – Color
3. How is color used in the overall composition? Which colors dominate which reinforce the concept? How is color value used in composition? Be specific and use terms related to color.
Color is very important in the composition. Blue and Green are connected together by the gray color. There is alot of gray colors, but the the blue and green stick out more enchancing the grays in the background. The blue and green colors are all relative to the colors of earth reminding the fact that this is a green advertisement because the two colors are very important because they remind you and put the emphasis of earth in the compostion.

Project 2 – Question 5
I think the image would make a great billboard. The image is simple and gets the message across. You can tell the image is “green” and is about water. I like how contour is used for the people so the emphasis is on the world and water faucets. I also like the ransom note looking text at the bottom. The text adds an urban feel to it. The text bubbles above the people with the faucets show that they are thinking about water. I really like this composition and I think it fits the assignment well.

Project 2 Critique – Value
1. How is value used in the composition? (Creates 3-d, use of light and dark, mood, contrast). Be specific, if value missing or weak include that also.
Value is used in a variety of ways in this composition. The hands, cupping the Earth, are dark and brooding, the shadows deep and meaningful. The light comes from above and makes the hands pop out as a 3-D shape. The Earth held within the hands has a subtle glow around the edges and at the center, as if giving off the light that illuminates the hands yet at the same time shows that the object is a sphere and not just a circle. I especially like the subtle use of Contrast on the letters placed on the fingernails. WATER is spelled out in pale, thin letters as if scratched into the nail. I’m not sure if it was intentional, but W A R is lighter than T E, as if alluding to a WAR over WATER if we don’t conserve now. Subliminal messaging, perhaps? All in all, great use of Value.

Project Critique – Texture
What role does texture have in the composition?(Detail,pattern,space,and/or design). Be specific, if texture is missing or weak, include that also.
-I like the texture that was used on the 2 “strips” behind the globe. It gives that “green” feel and the essence of water on the other. I also see that texture behind in the middle part of the composition. Though, I can’t tell what importance that texture has.(or maybe I just can’t see it well coz it’s too small).
